OO Hunslet 16in 0-6-0ST

Industrial Shunting Engine. The 16in cylinder diameter 0-6-0ST was the largest in the standard range of locomotives offered by the Hunslet Engine Company of Leeds in the 1920s and early 30s. Similar lower power locomotives were offered with 12, 14 and 15in diameter cylinders. They were designed for industrial shunting duties where owners were looking for an economical, simple to operate and easy to maintain locomotive, with a range of optional fittings to suit duties or site requirements. 44 locomotives were built between 1923 and 1958, with the last in industrial service in the 1970s. A number have been preserved, proving ideal for passenger service on many shorter heritage railways.
